Each year YMCA's in 127 countries around the world reflect on peace in November.
The Kamloops Community YMCA-YWCA encourages kids, youth and adults in the Y family to create peace by living it every day with family, friends, neighbours and colleagues. An extremely meaningful part of YMCA Peace Week is the opportunity to recognize local people and organizations that work quietly, but tirelessly, to make the communities and the wider world in which we live fairer, more just and more peaceful.
Since 2006, the Kamloops Y has awarded Y Peace Medallions to individuals and groups in Kamloops who have demonstrated, without any special resources, their commitment to building peace in their community and around the world.

The Kamloops Community YMCA-YWCA is a values- based charity whose mission is to support the growth of people in spirit, mind, and body and to foster a sense of responsibility to each other and the global community. As an organization, we are very proud to be able to award the YMCA Peace Medal to individuals and groups who are making a very important contribution and who are living out the values expressed in the World Alliance of YMCAs' Peace Statement:
Peace has many dimensions. It is not only a state of relations among nations. We cannot expect to live in a world of peace if we are unable to live in peace with those close to us - even those who differ from us...The responsibility for peace begins with each person, in relationships with family and friends, and extends to community life and national activities. World Council of YMCAs, 1981.
