Choose to Move is a FREE, 6-month program for adults 65+ who are looking to get active! With the support of a certified Activity Coach, participants develop a personalized physical activity action plan based on their interests, goals and abilities. Choose to Move is evidence based and delivered in partnership with Active Aging BC. Participants have to opportunity to connect with others in the program through group meetings at the Y and have regular telephone check-ins with their Activity Coach. Participation in Choose to Move includes a complimentary 3-month membership to the YMCA!
TO REGISTER, PARTICIPANTS MUST BE:

Fitness based in a chair with emphasis on building strength to improve everyday living. Improve bone density, strength, flexibility, balance and make friends. There are multiple classes offered every week, click here to view our fitness schedules. Included in membership.
Circuit exercise class for those wanting to be better conditioned before or after surgery. Clients will work under the supervision of a physiotherapist and a fitness trainer. Verbal referral from a physiotherapist or doctor is recommended if surgery has been within 3 months from the start of the class.
Minds in motion is designed for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease or other forms of Dementia. Registrants must be accompanied by a friend, family member or caregiver. Enjoy light exercise (45min) conducted by a certified fitness instructor, followed by social activities, games or crafts in a relaxed and accepting atmosphere. Light refreshments will be provided. This program is offered in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
A unique and specific group circuit exercise program to maintain or improve flexibility and strength, encourage independence and safety and improve balance and mobility in individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. Classes run twice per week and are typically 2 hours long. To register in the program please contact Lindsay at 250-851-7916.
Self Management BC Programs
Offered in partnership with Self Management BC. Self-management programs provide education in a supportive environment to increase an individual’s skills and confidence in managing their health problems, and generally includes goal setting and problem-solving support.
Different sessions are offered throughout the year and are FREE for registrants. All programs run for 6 weeks, 1 day per week. Below are summaries of the programs that may be offered:
DO YOU LIVE WITH PAIN EVERYDAY? This free six session workshop (once a week for six weeks) helps people living with chronic pain and their caregivers to better manage symptoms and activities of daily life Participants receive the “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain” companion book and the “Moving Easy” CD Space is limited. The workshop gives participants the skills to coordinate all the things needed to manager their health, as well as to help them keep active in their lives and relationships.
