At the YMCA-YWCA, we understand the important roles that physical activity and mindfulness play in coping with stress and managing mental health. That’s why we have programs like Mindful Monkeys which helps support youth to be more active and learn healthy coping strategies.
During the program, youth meet in groups of 12-14 at the YMCA for 8 weeks to discuss healthy coping strategies and to try new physical activities.
In the first hour, the mental health facilitator leads the group in sharing and learning from one another. Together they set achievable goals, examine barriers that might prevent healthy coping, and discuss tools and strategies to help make managing stress easier!
The second hour is led by the physical activity specialist. The group tries out new games, sports and fitness classes each week, both indoors and outdoors. Mindful Monkeys is fun, active and engaging!
• Ages 8-12 • No formal diagnosis is needed • All fitness levels welcome
• Opportunity to try a new physical activity and new mindfulness activity every week • Make new friends and have fun • Mindful Monkeys is FREE; YMCA membership is not required • Participants receive a complimentary 8-week YMCA membership • Learn how to manage stress from experienced professionals in a safe environment
